A request for techy recommendations
Oct. 19th, 2004 05:17 pmI'm looking for an mp3 player. Edit: I'm also considering buying an mp3/CD player if it looks like it would be more useful. My current portable CD player is about a decade old and barely operational. Obviously, I covet an iPod but they are far too expensive. It doesn't need to be overly fancy or have a huge storage capacity--64 or 128 MB is fine. Now that I've bought this execrable little contraption on impulse (which I will return ASAP), I have a better idea of what I'm looking for.
I'm currently considering a player available at the local Radio Shack, the Lexar Jumpgear 64 MB Jumpdrive Sport player. Has anybody had any experience with it?
Should you care to recommend any other players, here are my criteria:
Minimum requirements:
costs maximum $120 Canadian
okay sound quality: doesn't need to be hi-fi but can't have a really obvious hiss
displays the file name and/or title/artist
play, stop and/or pause, fast-forward, rewind, and volume controls
Would be nice but isn't necessary:
volume level doesn't reset every time I turn it off
can remember what track I was listening to (even nicer if it can remember where I was in the track)
expandable memory
drive can be used to transport non-mp3 files (the Jumpgear thingamajig does this)
a bookmark feature (further added bonus)
I have a computer program that recognizes scanned text and can make mp3s out of my course readings, so audiobook-appropriate controls would be nice. I'll also be using it to listen to assigned course material, i.e. mp3s copied from CDs in the library that will sometimes be quite long.
