I saw Meltdown (a new play) tonight. Most of it was quite engaging, humourous, and compelling. One of the star actresses - the one involved in most of the risque "shock value" stuff (read: implied/shadow-played bestiality) - is actually sort of a friend of mine! We're both on the QMT Board. She was just... wow. And I loved the design and the inventiveness of a lot of the staging.

It's a great pity the third act was such a let-down. It betrayed the look and feel of the piece up to that point, it meandered, it got boring, and then it just ended. At QMT band rehearsal earlier today, I was advised to leave after the second intermission. I probably should have left but I didn't for several reasons: I had enjoyed the previous acts a lot and wanted to see what happened to the characters, I wanted to congratulate my friend, and most of all... the playwright was sitting next to me and would have noticed if I had left.

But God, I love theatre. I spend so much of my time envying drama people - not just actors (although they are the most visible and glamourous element, of course) but everybody that gets to be involved in theatre so often. I don't have the ability to be an actor (duh!) but I think I would be happy if I was able to do something theatre-related for the rest of my life.
