Interestingly, the British appear to be at the same stage in ATM and bicycle helmet usage that Canada was at about twenty years ago. They also have a fondness (or perhaps just a need) for cute little cars. And they don't appear to find this (first paragraph) offensive. And, of course, nearly every sink one encounters has a separate hot and cold water tap.

I just get a whole bunch of out of luck when I try following those links.

The separate hot and cold taps is a pain, I agree — except when I want to be certain the water I'm about to drink has no hot water mixed in, given the hot water likely comes from a heater tank that was in turn fed from a cistern full of dead pigeons, etc.

Admittedly, these days I drink mainly mineral water. Maybe I'm overly paranoid, though given how high the water table is around here and how much nitrous fertilizer the farmers use, I doubt it.
