You know the A&P "It's Fresh or It's Free" thing? A complete crock. I had to look through three boxes of oranges before I found one that appeared to be free of rotten fruit (read: mushy, green and brown, white fluff, etc.), discovered in the queue that the box I'd selected *also* had at least one rotten orange in it, and didn't get anything free or even discounted. All they did was hold up the line for ten minutes investigating it and then get me another box.

If there's no way to receive anything free then what's the point of the bloody promotion?

Addendum: I've just discovered that the replacement box has a moldy orange as well.

What you have to do is find something that has an expiration date and bring it to the checkout with a new one. I guess it doesn't apply unless it's dated.

After reading all the conditions at the page you linked to, the promise appears to equate to "we'll do the least we can to comply with the law".
