It had the potential to be a productive day. On the one hand, I was able to get to a rehearsal at 11am (nearly) on time. I have not been required to get up that early on a weekend on more than one or two occasions this year. On the other hand, I was exhausted even after eating brunch following the rehearsal and went home for a nap almost immediately. And slept until 8pm. The meal hall closes at 6:30 now, because sports season is over and they don't give a **** about anybody else's rehearsals/practices. So, I ordered pizza, and now I sit here at my computer procrastinating from finishing a project that was supposed to be done for today.

In my defense, I wasn't dawdling most of last night. I went to a recital by a senior flute student, and by and large really enjoyed it. The playing itself was very good. The only problem was that she was very evidently nervous (although managing it pretty well) and I empathized with her difficulties; we in fact appear to run into the same problems when we're nervous, fuzzy sound, occasional cracked notes, etc.

At the reception afterwards, I mostly stood around and listened to other people talk, or kept myself company by the food tables. A senior music student and friend of mine, I'll call her Imogen , took pity on me and came over to talk several times. She sort of convinced me to come to the toonie movie* with her and some friends. "Queen of the Damned" was showing, and though both agreed that it looked (to our tastes) horrible, we thought the group could sit in the back and enjoy deconstructing the movie.

Intending to follow this plan, I proceeded to the music computer lab, intending to finish my project on Purcell before going to the movie at midnight. Instead, I first got caught up in a group of people socializing, then tried to figure out Sibelius (music notation software), and noodled on the keyboard while I experimented with newly-discovered instrumental settings. As midnight approached but I still could not concentrate and had too much jaw pain to practice flute, I decided that the night wouldn't be a total waste if I practiced for my sight singing test on Tuesday. So I practiced my sight singing (now there's an oxymoron) until about 1:30, noodled a bit more while half-asleep until about 2:00, then finally woke up enough to drag myself home and into bed. As is probably evident, my sleep patterns are getting messed around again.

*Movies are shown at the local theatre for two dollars on Friday nights at 12. A Canadian two dollar coin is usually called a "toonie" or "twonie".
