Back at home
Apr. 28th, 2002 11:59 pmWell, here I am in Ontario again, and only able to access the internet when Dad (a telecommuter) isn't using it.
The last few days and the trip home went much as expected. People gradually trickled out of the house, frequently when I was asleep and couldn't say goodbye. I wrote entries for several of those days after the fact, as can be seen fairly clearly below.
Our route took Dad and me to Fredericton first to see some friends of the family, before turning back for Quebec and Ontario. I felt rather lonely during these...uh...gatherings, as these people, while being perfectly pleasant, really weren't sure how to go about talking to me. At least they were friends of sorts, which was probably better than spending nearly three days with only Dad as company.
Also, Dad and I were incredibly lucky on Tuesday evening. After dinner (with several of the aforementioned people), we arrived back at the hotel in Fredericton just in time to be offered free tickets to a show at the high school that very evening--in ten minutes, actually. I managed to convince him, and we were treated to a show by Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers. It did quite a bit to improve my spirits following a pretty lonesome and dispiriting day.
We arrived home on Thursday, Mum's birthday. It wasn't really celebrated until today, when we finally went out to dinner as a family.
Mum, Dad, and I also attended a fantastic ("farewell", apparently) concert by Anton Kubalek, the husband of my piano teacher last summer. Suffice it to say that the entire concert was wonderful. I'm too tired to write anything more coherent about it.
