Following my arrival home from Boston after 12 hours on a bus last night, I did manage to nearly finish my harmonization assignment due today. I slept through my alarms until 2:00, at which point woke up with a scant two hours before the assignment was due. Wben I woke up, I had not had a real meal for over 24 hours. (The meal hall closes early now so I couldn't eat there.) Even while working on an empty stomach. I would have finished the assignment in time, but my computer (on which I run a notation program) insisted on losing MIDI sound then crashing every ten minutes and the printer wouldn't work. I finally finished the damn thing after the meal hall had ended its ridiculously short dinner hours and too late for the assignment to count for any marks unless the professor (who is under the false impression I don't give a damn) is feeling generous. I went to the Conservatory anyway to slip it under his door, then made it back barely in time for room draw where due to really unlucky circumstances* I was denied a chance at any single room anywhere in Satellites.

I missed an important vocal jazz sectional (for a performance on Friday). I have a major paper (worth 25%) overdue, with a final extended deadline next Monday. The room draw was the first time anybody in my house had spoken to me since I arrived back on Sunday. I still haven't had the time or resources to eat a real meal.

Right. I have some canned soup somewhere, so I'll go prepare that. Boston was enjoyable. Here's hoping the next entry is on a more positive note.

* Precedence is determined by a point system: you get points for seniority and points for drawing into the same house as where you currently live. The Satellites are a collection of small houses, so one has more points for drawing into the same specific house but still precedence over the rest of the university for drawing into any of the Satellites. My house is going to be a special French-language house next year (it's usually at the Monastery, but not enough people signed up), so I am not allowed to draw into it and am therefore denied any precedence as a resident of my own house. So, the upshot of all this is that while I have tolerated roommates for two years and appear to be basically incapable of living in a double room, first year students still took all of the singles except for those at the Monastery. The Monastery is an half hour (and windy) walk from both the Conservatory (where I spend most of my time) and the meal hall (where I am required to eat), and I there's just no way I could handle that.
