Reading Week: February 16-19

(Re: Subject: Don't think I've mentioned that yet.)

I am briefly back in Kingston. I went home for a First Aid course on Saturday and Sunday, then came back here today for a flute lesson and dentist appointment tomorrow, then it's the train back home tomorrow evening so I can see The Producers in Toronto on Wednesday afternoon. The course was mostly tedious and I disliked the instructor, but I was glad to be refreshing my skills and it will help in my summer job search to be able to list current First Aid and CPR certification. An exciting Valentine's Day indeed, eh?

Speaking of my summer: I still don't really know what I'm doing. I've got a room in a house[1] (at long last) for which the lease starts in May, so that's accommodation guaranteed in Kingston if I decide to stay. I'm applying for summer jobs here too (including this one), as they're obviously much more plentiful than in my home town. I could take additional spring-summer courses too if I stayed, if I found a job with hours that worked.

Then there's the distant possibility of applying for spring or summer term here. I really liked what little I saw of the UK this time last year (Hi, [livejournal.com profile] soubrette!) and it would be a good way to work on some courses over the summer, experience another culture, and see a bit of the UK and Europe as well. Admittedly, the courses wouldn't be the most applicable to my degree... but they have an opera course that would involve visits to see the ENO! (And they'd be less applicable than the usual spring-summer offerings here in Kingston.)

And if it's possible, I'd like to spend some time this summer with my parents and sister as well... just not four months, which I don't think I could stand again.

[1] I'm looking forward to living there. I really liked the other inhabitants (four girls) when I visited. My sense of relief and joy at finding a household of easy-going, slightly geeky animal lovers who prefer movies and small get-togethers to hard drinking was probably pretty palpable during my interview. They appear to like me too, which is nice. (I was chosen over the other who applied for the room.) I just hope I don't turn out to be a pain in the ass to live with. It will be my first time living somewhere I have to help maintain and keep clean.
