It's halfway through May, and I'm still almost never managing to wake up before noon. Absolutely pathetic, I know. Despite this, I've done a few interesting things.

Very shortly after arriving home, Mum, Dad, and I attended a splendid concert by a world-class pianist. We know him; I took piano lessons from his wife last summer, and Dad goes out with him for Guinness at a nearby pub. Dad willingly paid $75 for each ticket, which astonished me. This was a Canadian preview of the farewell concert being held in Prague any day now.

I saw my sister perform in the Quinte Ballet School gala, and met the woman who's been billeting her for the past four months. She's improved visibly in her one year at a professional school, even to my (relatively) untrained eyes.

I went (with Mum) back to my high school to pick up tickets for the dance show (Deirdre wants to see her friends) and visit Mrs. P, my Special Ed. teacher. She was delighted to see me, of course, and though I was frankly embarrassed by all the attention, I appreciated its underlying sentiments. I'm going to meet her for lunch again some time this month.

I reacquainted myself with the National Ballet of Canada (we were lowest-cost members last year) when Mum and I saw Apollo, Intermezzo, and Voluntaries. Wonderful, as always, and better rehearsed that some mixed programs I've seen. I admit, I was disappointed to see Geon van der Wyst (new principal dancer from Australia - very macho) rather than...well, pretty well anybody else dancing the role of Apollo.

For Mother's Day, Dad, Mum, and I saw Johnny Collins perform in Toronto. He's a fantastic British folk singer about which I knew very little before Christmas, when I was given an extra copy of a CD of shanties. Much fun was had on my part, singing heartily and improvising harmonies. There were a lot of folk singers in the audience, so it was heavenly to just sit and listen to the harmonies as well. Sadly, I've rarely experienced folk music that was that participatory.

Mum and I usually go for walks each evening (which is usually the time by which I've finally gotten myself together enough to leave the house and appear in public). This is good. I think all that walking at university must have done some good, because I find I have more endurance and energy while walking now than any time in recent memory. Today, through some miraculous convergence of time and space, Mum managed to get Dad to come along as well. I used my rollerblades for the second or third time since they were bought when I was twelve years old; I now boast an extremely rare (these days) skinned knee.

The physiotherapist told me today that my TMJ inflammation and stiffness is getting better. The incredibly irritating bite plate (cost: $350) acquired about a month ago must be doing something, I suppose.

I've started up flute lessons again, finally. The music centre is going to get back to me tomorrow about my position teaching (beginners) flute there.

Exciting, eh?
