May. 4th, 2004 01:26 amI saw an Afghani movie called Osama today. It's about a sadly familiar topic--life under the rule of the Taliban--here conveyed by focusing on the character of a terrified twelve-year-old girl who utterly fails to disguise herself as a boy. As an audience member, one spends the entire film dreading her inevitable fate. "Great" may not be the word for this film but "harrowing" certainly is. Certain moments keep lingering in my mind.
[Edited later: By the way, I liked Osama better than Baran, a movie with a similar premise.)
Heading back to Kingston tomorrow, er, later today.
