I've been away from Fort Henry for more than a month and am still experiencing crippling back pain. I've gradually come to realize that much of it comes from sitting at my desk. (The slanted floor under my bed may also be to blame.) I've heard of people getting sore from sitting at a desk or in front of a computer too long but I get intense pain after sitting for twenty minutes. Mum dropped by a couple weeks ago to assist me in attempting to level out the floor underneath my desk chair using a large sheet of plexiglass and newspapers. She left the level[1] behind so I could make adjustments myself.

Following further experiments with the level today, I have made a breakthrough by confirming my suspicion that the chair itself is slanted. Literally. The seat portion slants more than the floor ever did. This is ridiculous; the thing cost a fortune. The point of buying it was to ensure that I wouldn't experience the problems I had with my chair last year.

[1] Is that what they're called? Tool thingamajigs with bubbles suspended in liquid that indicate if a surface is level.

I don't know what they're called in leftpondia, but over here they're called spirit levels.

Not sure what they're called either.

Is this ergonomic chair supposed to be slanted?? Seems like your best bet is to do stretches every 15-20 min. Ever since starting my teaching practicum (just this wk!), I've noticed that my muscles feel tired and in need of lots and lots of stretching. It's as though they're ready to burst from all the tension. Too much sitting around.

Stretch! Stretch! Strecth! =)

They are called levels.
And sorry to hear about the pain, and the poorly made chair!
