Quite true. However, she has already said that her primary gripe with the Conservatives is with Stephen Harper's leadership. But really, to be perfectly honest, matters between her and MacKay are their own personal business.
I'm not very political at all, so I don't know how things work, but how can someone be elected on one platform and then just switch over? Like couldn't we all run as Liberals and then become communists? How does this work?
I think the general convention is that one crosses the floor only in extreme circumstances. And though MP candidates are aligned with a particular party when they run for election, they do have a personal platform that they basically retain when they cross the floor.
It would be a stretch for a Liberal to suddenly become a Communist, but Belinda Stronach was always a fairly small-l liberal member of the Conservative party. She supported gay marriage, for instance. So it's not that drastic a step for her to join another centrist (although slightly to the left) party.
