Well, not quite. I've been packing for school, or rather getting hopelessly lost in piles of more stuff than my brain can handle. It's lots of fun. No, really. That's not a grimace on my face.

As my time has run out, I've realized how many things I need to get done before I leave on Thursday. And how much time I've wasted this summer (but then, I knew that already).

Eaglewood was wonderful. Camping there enhances the experience so much. Being at song circles (and even participating) in the wee hours of the morning was (to use a cliche) very special. I can only hope that we stay over on Sunday night as well next year. Performance highlights included David Francey, Betty & the Bobs (with David Matheson), Rob Lamothe, Trevor Mills, Valdy, Jackie Washington, Ron Nigrini, and nouveau-hippie Brent Titcomb. What a pity I didn't take any photographs.

Only a day later, the family was off to see The Tempest. I don't know if I mentioned it, but we also saw Romeo and Juliet. Both productions were marvellous, although I suspect I preferred the The Tempest ever so slightly. It was actually staged on an island in Fairy Lake, with the audience on a floating dock. They used the island to its full (wonderful!) effect, having "harpies" appear in trees, staging scenes in several different clearings and so on. This is the festival's first repertory year, so it was fun to see the same actors in the completely different roles. I was particularly enthralled by Matthew Fyfe's Romeo and Ariel. One actor who had been fairly boring as Count Paris (how can one be much else than boring in that part?) turned out to my delight to be a fabulous Trinculo.

Last Wednesday, we visited my great-aunt's cottage for two nights. (My immediate family does not own a cottage, so this is our only way to have the "cottage experience".) It was the second such trip this summer, but Deirdre was along this time and brought a friend, which livened things up a bit. I got to use the lovely sea kayak again, swam a fair bit, taught my aunt Mancala/Conglak, relaxed, and generally enjoyed the fact that my family tends to get along better when outsiders are present.

My family (well, my parents) owns a cottage in the Lake District. It's a nice little place actually. Big wooden beams, a log fire, whitewashed walls. About five minutes walk away from fields and a nice spring with clear water. I'm not sure if there still is, but there used to be a working blacksmith living only a few doors away. It's pretty much a rural idyl.

I hate the place.

See, we used to go there quite a bit, and we used to go walking a lot while we were there. Now, as I'm the youngest of three children, this meant that I got all the hand-me-down boots and cagoules and what have you. The ones that leaked. And didn't fit. I also had the smallest legs, and ended up totally shattered after distances that were fine to my siblings.

Unpleasant memories. So as a result, I don't like walking, I dont like our cottage, and I'm not much of a fan of cottages in general.
