I'm going to be an adoptive rat mommy! I pick these two up on Sunday. (Yes, I've been feeling lonely a lot lately.)

Since inspections are coming up, I figured I'd better ask the apartment building management about pets. Their response: no rodents, under any conditions, end of story. I'm very disappointed and saddened, not to mention irritated that my neighbours are allowed to neglect their cat for days at a time while I'm not trusted to supervise two rats.

Awww... so cute!! :D Did you get them from a breeder? I want pet rats too... but later. Hopefully our kitty will learn to play gently with rats =)

I got them by asking around on various web forums and groups until I found someone who was offering rats in Kingston. She turned out not to be a breeder but a student who accidentally ended up with a litter.

I kept rats as a child but stopped once my family got into cats (jump-started after we adopted a stray). I think it is possible for them to co-exist but it'd make me pretty skittish for a while.

My old housemate had one. I loved him. Too bad he died.

Yes, that is the unfortunate thing about rats, their short lifespans and tendency to pick up diseases. Part of the reason I decided to give rats a rest when I was thirteen was because I had two die in rapid succession and it broke my heart.

Awwwwwwwwwwwww! They're so sweet!
We've had a couple rats. I used to be nervous around them (those and guinea pigs but not other rodents, I dunno why really) but then we took in an abandoned ratty and she won me over pretty quick. :)

They're such wonderful friendly little critters.

Oh, and we had cats when we had both of our rats. They were interested but mostly kinda perplexed as well. As soon as the rat was free and headed towards them the cats tended to become very suspicious and run away to observe from a safe distance. It was the same with our bunnies.
