We get along fine in all respects except one: waking hours. Her hours are much closer to mine (i.e. weird) than last year's roommate, but not nearly as late as me when I'm trying to finish a paper. Out of consideration, I usually work elsewhere and come into the room to get ready for bed.

And here's where big problem arises: she has got to be the lightest sleeper it has ever been my misfortune to room with. Even at four o'clock in the morning, the sound of the door opening (unlocked, no key, no doorknob movement, no squeaking) will wake her up instantly and completely. Also the sound of my bare feet unsticking from the (scuffed, not polished) wooden floor as I walk, the sound (?) I make when changing into a different shirt inside the walk-in closet with the door closed, and the rustle of my duvet as I get into bed in such slow motion that it takes me about a minute.

So she always wakes up. And I always feel guilty, even though I warned her about it last year when she asked if we could be roommates. And I feel that resentment is building.
