jaalaI attended a marvellous concert tonight. (If you're going to look at the website, try the French version--it's more complete.) The subtleties of the performance were lost in the cavernous venue, but it was very enjoyable nonetheless.
The order of the program (mostly cantatas & trio sonatas) was completely re-arranged, but we didn't have the words in the program anyway (grrrr...) so it didn't matter much. The alto (pretty much the only one who spoke to the audience) generously read us his own translation of one of the pieces, and made a most amusing slip-up which launched most of the audience (and the musicians) into hysterical laughter for about a minute. I'll just say it involved a mis-placement of the word "breast"...
(To allow the others time to recover and distract from his own embarrassment, he told us "a little story" about the time during a performance of Messiah when, in front of a huge audience in Toronto, he sang "God is swallowed up in victory" and had a similar effect on the musicians there.)
Anyway, it was an excellent concert. I'm really sorry I missed the workshop given by the group earlier today. (Missed it for the usual reasons, see previous entry...)
