The jazz concert went well. The sopranos got louder and louder (on parts that already carry!) and the acoustics were bad, so I haven't the slightest idea if I was singing in tune or not. (Come to that, I don't even know that I got all the notes right.) But no disasters occurred, even in our a cappella pieces, and it seemed to go over famously with the (sold-out) audience. We were the final act, and I got antsy as our time approached, but I did enjoy watching the other groups (SSAA vocal jazz, big band) perform.

This was Dr. E's last Jazz @ McConnell. From the looks of things, there will be no vocal jazz groups next year; no one else in the department is qualified to lead them. If a professor is hired to replace him, he/she will be an organist or "legit" choir director. And unless the committee is exceptionally lucky, the choir director will be nowhere near the calibre of Dr. E.

Once it was over, I cried--a couple times. So many people did.

(Today, I feel numb. I can't really believe that was the last time.)
