rehearsals!
Apr. 5th, 2002 01:48 amI'm attempting to get to bed at a decent time today (i.e. around 2am), so I'll try to make this short.
My music history teacher is letting me give a verbal presentation (to her, not the class) instead of handing in a term paper, to accommodate for the extra time it took me to change my topic after she didn't like the first one.
The band concert wasn't as bad as it could have been, but was still pretty bad (as usual). My monitor actually liked it, which surprised me. At Imogen's invitation, I went to her apartment afterwards to cheer up and "not really study". I brought my "Twich City", Arrogant Worms, and Flanders & Swann videotapes, and we (and another friend of hers, I'll call him Zach) watched them until the wee hours of the morning. Then she worked on music analysis project while I laboured over my theory assignment to the accompaniment of (her assignment) Boris Gudonov. She invited me to use the guest mattress; I protested that I didn't have any extra clothes. So she went to sleep; I continued working for a few minutes but promptly fell asleep on my arms for two hours. I woke up feeling sheepish at 5am, walked home and slept through most of the next day.
I was supposed to be chanting or singing in a composition recital piece, but at the rehearsal on Wednesday I ended up playing the piano instead. Several people involved in the piece or hanging around, including me, Imogen, and Zach went out for dinner afterwards. It was so much fun we all ended up arriving late (and drenched from the rain) for the women's chamber choir's performance of Vivaldi's Gloria and some songs (can't remember the title) by Brahms. Nevertheless, the performance was incredible. It was directed by the same person as the large choir and vocal jazz groups, naturally. Everything he directs turns out beautifully; I don't know how I'll survive once he retires after next year.
I am also playing flute in a chamber piece by the aforementioned compose (I'll call her Dora) which involves flute, alto flute, clarinet, pennywhistle, and piano. Though I arrived at the wrong time, this piece was rehearsed today also, and went pretty well I think. The recital is on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the coffeehouse is this upcoming Sunday. I rehearsed with the guys once we finished with the composition recital "dress rehearsal"; that is, from 10:40 until midnight. And I discovered once again that my belting voice stinks. And we badly need more rehearsal.
The bite plate is ready. A meeting with a professor eclipsed the last scheduled appointment to have it...uh...installed. The dentist is being so considerate as to go on vacation until after I am supposed to leave the province. This is not good. Possible plans include staying one and a half weeks after my final exam (i.e. as long as the university will let me stay in residence) for an appointment. Still waiting for word from the dentist's secretary...
Oh, by the way: our house BBQ/awards banquet was today. My monitor gave me the "sleeping beauty" award. How...uh...sweet.
