Best compliment I've received in a long time, from email sent to me by a Special Ed. staffperson (and friend, I think) at Mt A:
"I'll miss your sardonic take on the process of university education."

I was so busy finishing up a computer assignment (I can now use Finale 97 fairly proficiently) that I nearly missed the chorus auditions, but I got there with enough time to demonstrate that I can sing, blend, keep on pitch, and read music. The music director said they need chorus altos more than flute players, so I'm in. I'm relieved to be singing in something this year! (Nothing particularly challenging but hey, I might get to wear an interesting costume if the chorus is onstage.)

Speaking of Finale...
My professor claims that Sibelius, a program I have used and love, is a lower-end product made by the same company as Finale. (That's not true.) Moreover, she says that Finale is clearly a professional program, while Sibelius is not. We've learned some fairly esoteric notation and layout stuff in Finale, and not once have I learned something that could not have been done more quickly and more easily (and that I didn't have to learn in a class) in Sibelius. I'm sure Finale has its advantages, but I think she's being needlessly elitist. (It's sad that I care this much about competing software, isn't it?)

Fascinating fact of the day, learned while catching up on Canadian Music readings:
While in a civilian prisoner camp in Germany during the First World War, Sir Ernest MacMillan played Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest in drag.

I have tickets for The Producers, oy! did they cost a lot. (For a Wednesday matinee in February too!)

Speaking as someone who uses Sibelius regularly for music arrangement, my comment is "wugh?"...is this someone who has *used* Sibelius?

Cost a lot hmm?

I'm not shocked. Wincing in pain at the thought, but not shocked.

But I mean ... it's gonna be a damn good show, even at the exorbiant toronto prices! Just remember that :)
