Me Christmas booty, arrr!

Sorry, yesterday's family viewing of that damned pirate movie getting to me.... It was a gift for my sister who, unlike me, loved the actual movie. I'd be much happier with an edit that included only those scenes featuring Johnny Depp.

Anyhow, for those who find such things worth reading (a gauge of my interests or somesuch), Christmas gifts received:

gift certificates
  • CanStage: enough to buy tickets for me and one guest over 25 or two guests under 25 (woohoo!)
  • Chapters/Indigo/Coles: enough to buy half a regular priced CD or book

    CDs
  • David Francey: Skating Rink
  • The Complete Beyond the Fringe
  • Britten: The Turn of the Screw (Royal Opera; original not available for some odd reason, and Dad says that almost all the reviews he read of the Harding/Bostridge rendition were unfavourable)
  • Modabo: The Many and the One (used, out of print CD of defunct folk group I've heard was amazing)
  • Barenaked Ladies: Everything to Everyone CD/DVD (mistakenly bought instead of this, I suspect, but I'm not complaining)
  • soundtrack to Latcho Drom

    videos
  • P.D.Q. Bach: The Abduction of Figaro (unfortunately available only on VHS; really looking forward to seeing this)
  • Mel Brooks: The Producers DVD (the 1968 movie). I knew it would ruin some of the jokes in the musical, but I coudn't resist watching this. Having now viewed it once, I must say this is one of the funniest (and most offensive, obviously) movies I have ever seen. My adoration of the young Gene Wilder grows.

    traditional
  • World Wildlife Fund supporters T-shirt
  • UNICEF calendar

    "...the heck?"
  • plush Muskox that, when squeezed, either grunts or says in a fruity voice, "Hi. I'm Manley!" ("I knew I had to get it for you!" Mum said.)
  • little two-headed drum that is too small to be played by the hands but cannot really be controlled when played in the intended manner, i.e. turning it so that beads held to the drum by a string on either side hit the heads. (I already have another drum like this.)

    other
  • Chinese silk decorations for my room (from my sister)
  • book of short stories by Timothy Findley
  • ladybug keychain watch (the plates on its back part to reveal the watch face)
  • spiffy Cavallero flute gig bag

    gifts I gave (shopping-impaired as I am):
  • sister: sugarless caramel Torani syrup
  • Mum: Gordon Lightfoot tribute CD
  • Dad: County Vaudeville tape (not much else to give him: if he wants something, he just buys it)

I'm determined to send out some paper-and-print cards this year, on time or not, so I've been trying to get those done for the past few days. At this point, I haven't the energy to write anything about the actual day spent with the usual cousins, aunts, and uncles or about our own family dinner on Boxing Day. My sister went shopping on the latter, an activity towards which I hadn't the slightest inclination.

Yes, silly, it was you who introduced me. Alas, I only have that one song. Lovely, though. I am majorly genderfucked by one of the higher voices in one of the later voices. It's nice.

Would that be Dave Matheson, aka The King, a former conehead? Excellent!
