Radio stations that play a tuneless backbeat behind the weather and traffic report! (I avoid these types of stations like the plague myself but can't help hearing them in public places such as university dining halls.)

The owner of a station I used to work at described the use of a music bed like this as akin to "colour on the front page of the newspaper -- you don't need it, but it makes things stand out."
