I'm volunteering at this. Should be exciting.
Immediately preceding the film festival, I'm paying a long visit to the local sleep clinic. That is to say, I will be spending about twenty hours in my pyjamas, covered head to toe in electrodes and straps. My previous experiences at a sleep clinic were not a lot of fun (in fact, they involved what was certainly the most boring night of my life) but I'm hoping something good will come of it this time.

Ah, weekends. *G*
In all seriousness, I found it difficult to fall asleep during my study. (When I was young, I had abnormal brain activity that eventually corrected itself before my teenage years. Although, I guess I still think abnormally, now that I think about it. *ooo* Conundrum! ... See what I mean? =:P *chuckle*) The atmosphere was just too cold and sterile and unfamiliar (though I did eventually fall asleep).
Re:
Lord. for me it's the damn cords everywhere. Try and toss and turn and ahhh. I get horrid sleep there (not that my sleep normally is any good *L*)

As for the 'twenty hours ...', Frine ... sounds like you're doing the latent sleep study or something along those lines? Bring plenty of material to read or things to do if so, cause the whole stuck to your bed the entire time thing can begin to drag. It's amazing - normally the thought of 'spending a day in bed' sounds so nice, but when its enforced it drags somewhat! good luck with it :)
hypno-helio stasis?
*chuckle* Yeah. I'm used to warm, comfy jammies and a warm, comfy blanket when I go to bed -- not being strapped to some stiff, air-conditioned, vinyl mat. Except for that time at the leather club wh- ... *ahem* but I digress. *G*
Of course, you also have to take into account that I've lived in a tropical zone for over half my life (21 years) now, even if I was born and raised just below Michigan. *g*
I would have thought I'd remember some irritation with the wires and electrodes, but for whatever reason all I remember is my curiosity with the electrodes being "glued" to me. *shrug*
I hope for the best for both of you during your sessions. :)
*goes back to work, thinking of spending the day in bed*

I'll be there for a long time. I get woken up at 6am and I'll be returned to bed for twenty minute naps many times after that (can't remember the actual number) but I think I'm allowed to get up and walk around in between. I am still bringing a lot of reading materials, however.

Not to mention the fact that I couldn't just get a cup of tea and curl up on comfy pillows and nap when I wanted to ;) I know what the naps are meant to test, but the whole thing - with the 'nap at this time' type deal - just dragged at me. So yes ... reading material is very important! At the very least it does give the chance to finish those books you've wanted time to finish ;)
